How Does Poverty Affect a Child's Health



• Low-income children are more likely to have low birth weights, asthma, type 2 diabetes and
suffer from malnutrition.
• Children living in poverty are 2.5 more times likely than those from wealthier families to have a disability, and are the least likely to access medical and community supports.
• Children in low-income working families are unlikely to have benefit plans for prescription
drugs, vision and dental care.
